 LEARNING OUTCOMES Top
This module provides students with the basic concepts for physical processes: filtration, sedimentation, centrifugation, fluidization and gas cleaning. Particulate solids are characterized in terms of size, size distribution, measurement and analysis and processing such as comminution and mixing. The concept of fluid flow and particle settling in fluids are used for design and operation of some important fluid-particle separation methods. The principle of fluidization and its applications in bio-reactors and pneumatic transport of solids are also included. It also covers crystallization, which is used as a tool for bio-separation.
