This module provides the second laboratory experience to students in chemical engineering processes and biologics manufacturing. Teamwork, technical communication skills, oral presentation and problem solving skills are further emphasised. The experiments covered are related to chemical kinetics and reactors, heat and mass transfer, fluid-particle systems, and biologics manufacturing. The importance of safety continues to be emphasised through rigorous implementation of proper operational and waste disposal procedures. The practical experience in fault diagnosis, instrumental analysis, data logging and processing, error analysis and data validation, and operation of process units gained in CN2108 are reinforced and extended further.
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
-
Design and conduct an experiment safely for a given purpose of investigating a chemical process;
-
Analyze experimental data by integrating the knowledge from the related modules (CN2116, CN2125, CN3124);
-
Investigate and troubleshoot a process during the experiment;
-
Write technical reports and present orally;
-
Function effectively in a team and also take leadership within the team.
