This course aims to help students understand the role of information systems in accounting and other areas of business. In particular, it examines the innovative applications of information systems to streamline business operations and enhance competitive advantage. Students will understand various business/accounting cycles and learn about how information systems are used in different functional areas such as marketing, operations and supply chain, finance/accounting, and HR/management.
The objectives of the course are summarized below:
To learn the different information sub-systems in a typical business organisation, such as, accounting information systems, human resources management systems, operations and supply chain systems, and marketing systems.
To learn the different cycles within an accounting information systems.
Introduction to electronic business.
: This course is taught lecture-tutorial style where students are expected to come prepared for classes, having read assigned readings. Students are required to participate actively in discussion, failing which they will receive low marks for participation.
