This module aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge of the basic mechanisms of common human diseases such as cancer, diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer?s disease etc., and to prepare them for future translational research. This module focuses on the current molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of each disease. There will be extensive discussion on results from current cutting-edge research. Prospective students should have basic knowledge of molecular and cell biology, immunology and general human physiology before registering for this module.
Prerequisites: For Life Sciences major/minor and pass LSM2101, LSM2103, LSM3212 and LSM3223.

2 hours for projects, assignments, fieldwork etc per week.
5 hours for preparatory work by a student per week.
