BUSINESS ANALYTICS CAPSTONE PROJECT

Course Description

TopIn this module, students are required to complete (in groups) a real-world business analytics project based on principles that they have acquired through the degree program. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the objectives of the analytics exercise, applying appropriate analytic methods and techniques to deliver impactful solutions to real-life clients, and demonstrating complex analytical methods and results in effective manners (both orally and in writing). Students are expected to serve as project leaders and team members who add significant value through excellent analytics solutions and professional responsibility, consistent with the aims of the project in which they are involved and the organizations they are working with.
 

Learning Outcomes

On the successful completion of the project, the module aims to develop students’ professional capabilities, personal capabilities, and teamwork skills.
 

  • Develop professional capabilities: Student will improve critical-thinking and analytical decision-making capabilities to investigate complex business analytics problems and propose project-based solutions.
 
  • Develop personal capabilities: Students will sharpen communication skills through close interactions with the team, consultations with lecturers as well as field supervisors, and formal presentations to real-world clients. Students are also expected to be more self-directed, set goals and follow through on commitments.
 
  • Develop teamwork skills: Students will get to hone their team and project management skills as effective teamwork and project management skills would be expected and required during the entire project duration.
 

Teaching Modes

TopThis course is a practical module. In the first class, students will meet the instructor for the course overview and field supervisors for project briefing. Subsequent sessions will be conducted mainly through group-based consultation sessions and presentations. Students will be required to make substantial contributions to the learning process through participation in consultations, group discussions, and group work. Students will also be expected to engage in self-learning and mastery of knowledge and skills that may be required to complete the project.

TopNo required textbook. References and reading materials will be distributed throughout the semester.

Course Website

TopWe will be using IVLE as a document repository for course documents (e.g., handouts, project templates, lecture notes, readings) and formal report and presentation slide submissions. All communications and announcements about the course will take place via email so please be sure to check your emails frequently.
