“Shape your Brand through Social Networking” is one of the 6 Skills Courses required of students taking TG3001. It is a blended learning module, which consists of both online and face-to-face components. The aim is to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to craft their professional identity on social networks, primarily LinkedIn. By the end of this module, students should be able to do the following:
Understand the concept of branding
Apply the concept of good branding to their online profile
Identify the features of a good LinkedIn profile
Create a compelling LinkedIn profile
Understand and apply the best practices of online networking

Welcome to our TG3001 Skill Course “Shape your Brand through Social Networking” course. This blended learning course consists of 9 e-learning videos, followed by a face-to-face workshop conducted by a learning coach. All TG3001 students are welcome to complete the online segment. Pre-registration is required for the workshop. You may register for the workshop by sending an email to
Students who have registered for the workshop must complete all online activities before attending the workshop. Please view the videos and participate in the in-video activities. Please also complete the short quizzes at the end of each unit before viewing the next video.
There will be a host of interactive activities for you. These will include quizzes to help you recall the lessons learnt in the online videos. There will also be ice-breaker activities so you get to know your peers. You will also participate in small group activities and provide peer support. An experienced life coach will facilitate and guide you through the activities. Please remember to bring your laptop for the workshop.

You will get a brief introduction to the importance of personal branding in this first video. You will get a quick snapshot of the course and what you’ll learn from it.
UNIT 1: What is a brand?

What is a brand and what are the qualities of a good one? These questions will be answered in this video. Examples of good brand names will be presented and you’ll learn how these brands achieve success. You will also discover the difference between online and offline branding activities.
UNIT 2: The Importance of Personal Branding

You will learn what a good personal brand is. You will also learn how to cultivate a good brand on social media and pitfalls to avoid when creating your digital footprints.
UNIT 3: Personal Branding on Social Media
[Duration: 4.40 min]
You will learn the practical steps towards creating a good personal profile on social media. You will learn about brand statement and the qualities of a good one. Through a series of activities, you will learn to create your own brand statement.
UNIT 4: The Qualities of a Good LinkedIn Profile
[Duration: 3:20 min]
You will learn the anatomy of a good LinkedIn Profile. You will meet John and help him navigate LinkedIn. Through a series activities, you will learn the main features of a LinkedIn profile and how you best to create your own.
UNIT 5: Professional and Individual Persona
[Duration: 4:50 min]
You will continue your LinkedIn journey with John in this video. Here you will learn to distinguish between your professional and individual persona. You will also learn specific skills like using the right words to create impact.
UNIT 6: Brand Statements and Summary Profiles
[Duration: 6:15 min]
You will revisit the concept of brand statements and how to create a good one. You will learn how to create a concise profile summary that supports your brand statement. Through a series of activities, you will learn how to choose the right terms and phrases to create a good and well-considered profile summary.
Please note that by the end of this video, you should have your own LinkedIn Profile. This is a pre-requisite for the face-to-face workshop that comes at the end of the course.
UNIT 7: Promoting Your Personal Brand

You will learn the importance of social networking at a professional level. You will learn the different platforms and what each has to offer. You will also learn the different levels of engagement on the different platforms.
UNIT 8: Networking and Beyond
[Duration: 2:40 min]
You will learn how to engage meaningfully on the various social networks. You will learn how to maximise on these connections to raise your profile online. You will also learn the basic rules of engagement on social media and the pitfalls to avoid.
