Learning Outcomes

TopUpon completion of this module, students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate competency to provide safe patient care in designated hospital and community settings
  2. Apply theoretical concepts to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients.
  3. Apply theoretical, research and clinical knowledge in the delivery of nursing care;
  4. Apply problem solving and critical thinking skills in  the delivery of multidisciplinary care;
  5. Administer medications prescribed for patients;
  6. Use reflective practice evaluate their own learning;
  7. Apply effective techniques in communicating with patients, relatives, peers and health care agency staff; and
  8. Provide safe ethical care within the legal parameters of nursing and level of scope of practice

Prerequisites

TopPre-requisite:
NUR2107 Clinical Practicum 2.2

Co-requisite:
NUR3113 Medical/Surgical Nursing III

Synopsis

Top

The module enables students to integrate nursing theory and clinical knowledge through experience in clinical placement attachments in the emergency and critical care settings and in community settings. Students will focus on planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for allocated patients. Students will apply knowledge from nursing and clinical sciences in the clinical management of patients. Attendance for the scheduled clinical practicum is mandatory.

  1. Orientation to the hospital and community care setting
  2. Observe and use effective communication within the healthcare environment
  3. Deliver holistic care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse
  4. With the assistance of preceptors/ faculty members use problem solving and critical thinking approaches to plan nursing care
  5. Use reflective practice principles to evaluate experiences and identify learning needs
