This module aims to examine real estate policy issues. Students will acquire an understanding of selected real estate policies within a setting and trace the developments of these policies over a period of time to meet the challenges of the time and the unintended consequences. The main topics include the concepts and principles of real estate, selected real estate policies in the various markets and segments, such as urban development, housing, land, commercial, etc. The students will also acquire the knowledge of how these policies affect patterns of urban developments, types of real estate landscape, peoples’ behaviour and other social, economic political effects.
At the end of the module, students should be able to conduct independent learning, synthesize different ideas, collect data, analyze the available evidence, and present their findings on issues such as:
Real estate policies as part of the national policies.
Issues and challenges in real estate issues and policy changes to address them.
Conflict in real estate policy making.
The intended and unintended effects of real estate policies on patterns of urban developments, peoples’ behaviour and socio-economic landscape.
