Objective - The module offers an overview of project management. It covers the strategic use of projects as part of business strategy, the project cycle in terms of its conception, planning, and execution, and the factors that underpin the success of projects. The project manager as an effective leader in managing projects is emphasized at each stage of the cycle.
This module will attempt to address project management issues across various industries.
Be able to:
Explain what corporate strategy is & articulate the importance of projects to change direction of corporate strategy of a company.
Describe the 5 steps in Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge
Guide & the 7 stages of a project as described in Chartered Institute of Building’s Code of Practice for Project Management for Construction & Development.
Employ the 5 steps in PMBOK
Guide & demonstrate its use to the 7 stages in Chartered Institute of Building’s Code of Practice for Project Management for Construction & Development.
Critique the practice of project management of projects.
Describe the traits of good leadership of project managers.
There will be 2 group assignments, each for 20% of assessment, during the semester.
The final examination will have 60% of assessment.
