Learning Outcomes

TopUpon completion of the module, in relation to patients with alterations in cardiovascular, respiratory, hematological, endocrine, visual and dermatological function, students will be able to:
  1. Discuss pathophysiological theory relevant to the nursing care;
  2. Analyse, interpret and report upon results of common physical assessments and diagnostic tests with an aim to improve health status;
  3. Formulate, implement and evaluate a plan of nursing care for patients;
  4. Plan and conduct education sessions for patients (and significant others) and demonstrate the use of interpersonal communication skills to develop a therapeutic relationship with the patient;
  5. Use evidence-based practice as a basis for nursing care of patients;
  6. Describe the actions and side effects of common medications;
  7. Demonstrate mastery of medication calculations and administration of medications;
  8. Outline the role of the nurse in fluid and electrolyte management; and
  9. Discuss the role of patient advocate to promote best nursing practice.
Discuss the role of the nurse in the community setting in managing patients to ensure continuity of care between the hospital and community.

Synopsis

TopThis module focuses on the therapeutic management of patients with alterations in cardiovascular, respiratory, hematological, endocrine, visual and dermatological function. It equips students with knowledge and skills to provide safe care to meet the needs of patients in medical and surgical settings.
