This module aims to provide a thorough understanding of paediatric health assessment and to develop competent skills in performing physical examination. These skills are essential for diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision making. Principles and techniques from the physical and behavioral sciences are utilised to obtain assessment data and make differential diagnoses and subsequently, the final diagnosis.
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
Interview patients/parent/caregivers to obtain a comprehensive health history.
Apply a problem solving approach to the collection, synthesis and communication of data gathered, both oral and written.
Document a comprehensive health history.
Perform and document a comprehensive physical, developmental and behavioral health assessment of patients.
Plan and initiate basic laboratory and diagnostic tests based on patient’s clinical manifestations and interpret findings where appropriate.
Relate assessment findings to the underlying physiological alterations.
Perform signs and symptoms analysis based on the integration of the history, physical examination findings and diagnostic/laboratory tests’ results.
Establish differential diagnoses based on assessment data.
Analyze health assessment data to determine appropriate management or to monitor health status over time.\
Understand the pharmacological perspective of patient management.
