ART & CULTURAL HERITAGE LAW

This course explores international and domestic legal issues and disputes pertaining to the creation, ownership, use, and preservation of works of art and objects of cultural heritage. Cultural objects exist within the larger realm of goods and services moving throughout the marketplace. This course addresses the specialized laws and legal interpretations pertaining to the rights and obligations of individuals, entities, and governments as they discover and interact with these objects, within their own jurisdictions and across national borders, in times of war and peace.
NUS Compulsory Core Law Curriculum or equivalent.
Mode of Assessment:
Class Participation/ Presentation - 30%; Research Paper - 70% [Due: Fri, 8 March 2019 (9pm)]
9 session over 3 weeks: Three 3hr weekly seminar
Intensive: Wk 1 to 3; Dates: 14 Jan - *1 Feb 2019 [Mon, Wed: 6.30 - 9.30pm; & Fri: 2.30 - 5.30pm] * No Seminar on Fri, 1 Feb - make-up seminar will be held on Sat, 19 Jan (10am - 1pm). 26 Jan - tentatively reserved for visit to museum.
