Learning Outcomes

TopThis module introduces students to an expanded repertory of works in all genres and encourages them to assess them through their historical and societal context; to this end, they are taught basic library and research skills.

Students are encouraged to comment and discuss the music they hear using appropriate terminology. 

At the end of the module students will have;
  • Developed appropriate linguistic skills in order to communcate about music
  • Broadened their knowledge of repertoire in a wide range of musical genres
  • Understood the difference between objective and subjective assessments
  • Amassed the essential skills to enable them to undertake worthwhile research in subsequent years

Teaching Modes

TopWeekly one hour lectures include listening and discussion activities.

Assessment

TopTwo online quizzes undertaken in weeks 4 and 8 (20% each)

Final examination listening exercise involving written comments on THREE different musical works (60%)
