Learning Outcomes

Top
  1. Understand the fundamentals of computing device.
  2. Understand the data representation for common data types.
  3. Appreciate the idea of how computation can be expressed as digital logic function and realized as digital circuit.
  4. Understand the instruction execution cycle.
  5. Understand the program execution lifecycle (edit, link, load, execute).
  6. Understand the role of the major components in a typical computer (CPU, Memory, I/O) and the interaction between them.

Prerequisites

TopCS1010 or its equivalent

Teaching Modes

TopLectures - 3 hours a week
Tutorial - 1 hour a week
Lab - 1 hour a week

Preclusions

TopCS1104 or Students from Department of ECE
