Wealth Management is an important component in the financial services sector. The financial crisis of 2008 - 2009 has brought the relationship of wealth manager and client into focus. The course will introduce the concept of wealth management. Topics will include the regulation of financial advisors; the legal nature of the relationship; the implied terms; the express terms particularly on risk allocation; exclusion clauses; statutory and common law controls such as the Unfair Contracts Terms Act and the law relating to misrepresentation and estoppel. The parties' positions in the event of insolvency of either will also be examined.
NUS Compulsory Core Law Curriculum or equivalent.
