The Flipped Classroom model is gaining increasing attention in health professions education. The flipped classroom shifts the traditional lecture to a pre-class activity, promotes active learning, facilitates formative assessment and can be scaled up for a large number of students. The role of teachers shifts from being a “sage on the stage” to a “guide on the side.” Lectures are replaced by student centered activities. In this workshop, Prof. Sanjay Khanna will share his experience using the flipped classroom model in neuroscience teaching; Prof. Goh Poh Sun will present several technological platforms and solutions which can support a flipped classroom and the workshop will end with a hands-on session in planning a flipped classroom model for your teaching, facilitated by Dr Lee Shuh Shing. The workshop will address the following questions:
1. What is a flipped classroom model?
2. How does it work?
3. Why is it significant?
4. What are the downsides?
5. How to flip a classroom in health professional education?
6. What are the best practices in using the flipped classroom model?
