This module is aimed at providing an introduction to the general principles of management and particular aspects of direct relevance to the construction and real estate enterprise and the industry, emphasis being put on how a scientific approach can be used to deal with problems within organisations. General Functions: The manager's responsibilities and functions; development of scientific management and management thought; planning - principles and limitations; organising - concepts and wasteful practices; motivating individual and group - performance; control - requirements and techniques; communicating principles and forms. Specialised Functions: Marketing Management including marketing concepts, research, forecasts and tools. Research and Development including policy, organisation, staffing and co-ordination. Personnel Management, including the acquisition, utilisation, upgrading and retention of manpower. Human Resource Management. Office Administration including adminstrative structure, operational procedures and improvement of office administration.
