To prepare students with the knowledge and skills required to safely care for patients with altered cardiovascular and respiratory functions.
Upon completion of this module, the students will be able to:
Identify and apply relevant patho-physiological theory to the nursing care of
with cardiovascular and respiratory dysfunction, including perioperative and emergency situations under the direction of experienced Registered Nurses;
Analyse, interpret and report upon results of common physical assessments and diagnostic tests used for patients with cardiovascular and respiratory disorders with an aim to improve health status;
Formulate, implement and evaluate a plan of nursing care for patients with altered cardiovascular and respiratory function and demonstrate competency in the use of equipment available to manage such medical and surgical conditions;
Conduct patient education sessions for patients (and significant others) with altered cardiovascular and respiratory function and demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills in the development of a therapeutic rapport with the patient;
Obtain relevant and recent best practice evidence pertaining to cardio vascular and respiratory conditions and analyse as a basis for nursing practice; and
6. Describe the actions and side effects of common medications, including the nursing implications of calculation mastery related to medication management of
cardio vascular and respiratory disorders.
