Learning Outcomes
Top
Upon completion of the module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate beginning competency in comprehensive health assessment including physical (head-to-toe), psycho-social, cultural,
spiritual
and nutritional assessment;
Relate physical assessment to basic anatomy and physiology;
Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in health assessment in a range of health care settings;
Complete and record a detailed comprehensive health history; and
Describe normal findings using appropriate terminology to determine the difference between abnormal pathophysiology and normal physiology.

Providing a holistic framework for contemporary nursing practice, the module encourages students to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to apply knowledge and skills of comprehensive health assessment to diverse clinical situations.

Physical examination techniques using a head-to-toe approach covering integument; head and neck; chest, thorax and lungs; heart and peripheral pulses; abdomen; breasts and axillae; genitalia; musculoskeletal, back and extremities; and neurological functions
Psycho-social spiritual assessment
Assessment of cultural and religious practices
