INTRODUCTION TO COMMERCIAL LAW

This introductory course aims to equip non-law students with a basic knowledge of selected legal topics that are commonly encountered in the commercial world. Part 1 will cover Contract Law, which is the foundation upon which general commercial law is built. Topics include: contract formation; breach of contract; and agency Law. The making of contracts by agents on behalf of their principals will also be discussed. Part 2 will cover primarily Company Law. Topics include: comparison with other business vehicles; shareholder rights; director's duties; corporate financing; and insolvency.
Prerequisites: Open to 2nd, 3rd and Final Year students. Preclusions: Not open to (1) BBA students; (2) BBA (Hons); (3) 1st Yr [BU, RE], BSc (BU) & BSc (RE); (4) students with a degree or diploma in law.
