JR SEM SPECIAL TOPICS: ON VIOLENCE
2014/2015, Semester 2
Non-Faculty-Based Departments (Tembusu College)
Modular Credits: 4
This seminar is organized around three key questions: What is violence? How can we understand why it takes place? What can be done to reduce social harms? Students will study the patterning of violence, its causes, and the social responses to it. A deliberately broad range of violence is considered, including violence taking place in inter-personal communications, organizational behaviour, political governance, economic relations, physical conflict, and symbolic representations. We will also examine dimensions of violence associated with science and technology. Students will learn to work from multiple academic perspectives, and become critical appraisers of the methodologies used to assess harm.
The syllabus for this module can be found in the Workbin, in the folder "Course Documents".
