Objective - This module covers the fundamental principles of building materials and their chemical and mechanical properties. Major topics - Materials suitable for application in relation to weather resistance, stability, durability, damp prevention, insulation, energy conservation and fire protection. Principles relating to the weathering and corrosion of building materials are also covered. Laboratory tests include evaluation of behaviour of selected building materials under a wide range of conditions. Targeted Students - Architecture and Building students, and students who are interested in materials.
