The aim of this module is to provide students with an overview of public health issues, how they relate to the health system and health policy development. We will examine the origin of policies, their formulation, and the various components that make up an effective policy. Various frameworks will be introduced to help students understand and analyze policies and the challenges faced by stakeholders in the health care system.
Through a mix of lectures, in-class group discussion, and group work, students will be describing, understanding and developing policy solutions for common public health problems faced by Singapore and regional countries. The use of case studies will be at the core of the module. At the end of the module, each student will develop individual written assignments, including a policy critique as well as work in groups to develop a complete policy solution for a public health problem.
