Learning Outcomes

TopThe objectives of this module are:
• To introduce students to the modern concepts and strategies of
development.
• To introduce students to the different innovative skills of
management.
• To introduce students to  several real case studies on
development management.
 
The learning outcomes are:
The students will acquire the knowledge and skills
• To complete development on schedule and within budget.
• To maximise profit and minimize risks and problems in a
development.
• To apply a prudent management system from start to finish, adopt
proven creative methods, uncover and predict problems before they
escalated into crisis.

Teaching Modes

TopThis module introduces the basic techniques of managing the process of placing improvements on or to a parcel of land. Such improvements may include drainage, utilities, subdivision, access, buildings and any combination of these elements.
It focus on the practical and innovative management methodology of real estate development projects, and providing an appreciation of the use of management tools in achieving the objective and performance of these development projects. Management issues and instruments are given in- depth coverage with emphasis on innovative allocation and prudent risk management among all related parties.
The conduct of simulated case studies with appropriate appraisal of the creative usage of management instrument and methodology are major components of this module.

Synopsis

TopThis module covers the comprehensive property development process (including statutory requirements) and the roles of the project manager during each stage of the development cycle. Case studies of various types of property developments will be used to illustrate the principles.

Term Group Assessment

In this term group assignment, students shall supplement their academic knowledge learnt from the lectures with the practical application and operating procedure describe in this module. The term group assessment should provide useful comments, feedbacks and answer to the critical current development issues happened in Singapore.  

 

Assessment

Top
The assessment consists of two parts:

Open book examination (60%) - based on a 2 hour written paper

Term Group Assessment (40%)-A  group report and recommendation of a current Singapore development issue.
