Aims and Objectives
1 This module introduces students to ways of looking at and discussing works of art. The focus is chiefly on painting and sculpture; the emphasis is on analysing the composition or design of art works, discussing their symbolic attributes and in assigning meaning and significance for them.
2 The study of this module enables students to acquire critical skills for interpreting and connecting with works of art; it also enables cultivation of insights into ways of representing and making the world, visually and historically.
3 The module encourages students to look at and discuss art works in relation to a range of interests, intentions and issues; the aim here is to propose contexts for appraising the making and reception of art works and for interpreting them.
