The aim of this module is to provide a fundamental introduction to health care management and leadership, and the educational principles relating to teaching and learning processes.
Upon completion of the module, the students will be able to:
Evaluate the impact of health care issues, trends, organisational culture and values on the delivery of nursing and health care activities;
Differentiate between leadership and management in nursing, and discuss the core components and interrelationship of leadership and management;
Identify and discuss various leadership and management frameworks; and
Demonstrate application of critical thinking and problem solving using leadership and management principles and strategies in the delivery of patient care including decision making, human and material resource management, the role of information technology, quality assurance and risk management.
Describe the role of nurses in teaching and learning;
Plan and implement teaching plans demonstrating an understanding of educational theories, principles of teaching and learning, learning styles, factors that influence learning, domains of learning, teaching and learning processes, variation in instructional strategies and evaluation of the session; and
Explain the concept of preceptorship and discuss the roles and responsibilities of the preceptor and preceptee.
