This module will critically examine and review classic and emerging literature addressing the measurement of scientific innovations. Topics discussed in class will include: innovation, its operationalization, the processes and metrics of measuring innovation, collaboration processes, discourse, technologies, networks, and spaces; and collective action and intelligence. Students will participate in discussions, individual assignments and a group research project involving an immersion at a working laboratory, integrating foundational theoretical and methodological approaches with a specific project to produce a critical or empirical contribution to the scholarship in the field of measuring innovation.
