This course gives an introduction to the law of the European Union as a model for regional integration, focussing on those aspects which are most relevant in the Singaporean context. Students will be introduced to the features of the Union, including the main institutions, the relationship with the Member States and the judicial system. The second part will deal with substantive topics, which may include topics such as the internal market, harmonization of laws, competition law and trade law. At the end course students will be able to understand EU legal issues and problems in a practical context and derive lessons from the EU experience.
NUS Compulsory Core Law Curriculum or equivalent.
: Students must not have taken a substantially similar course. Students who have done EU Law & Regional Integration [Module code: L55.3013] under the NYU@NUS Summer Session are precluded.
9 session over 3 weeks: Three 3hr weekly seminar
Intensive: Wk 1 to 3; Dates: 13 - 29 Jan 2014 [*1 make-up session in lieu of CNY (Wed 15 Jan, 1 - 4pm).
Mode of Assessment:
Class Particiaption - 20% & 6-hr Take Home Exam - 80% [Release: Fri 7 March 2014 (5pm); Due: Fri 7 March 2014 (11pm)]
