Description

Top

This module focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of communication programmes designed to change or reinforce health behavior.

Emphasis will be on the step by step process of
1. formative research and analysis (including use of conceptual frameworks, audience research, and assessment of the media, policy and service environment),
2. theory-based and evidence-based strategic design,
3. message development, pretesting and materials production,
4. implementation and monitoring, and
5. theory-based evaluation and dissemination of findings.

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to develop a work plan for a health communication project.

 

Learning Outcomes

Top

 By the end of the course, learners will
 

  1. Know the specific steps in the process of developing a communication project, intervention, or campaign;
  2. Be able to describe research options used in the development, implementation & evaluation of a campaign;
  3. Be able to identify campaign-specific research questions and how to answer them
  4. Be able to develop a comprehensive evidence-based communication strategy;
  5. Be able to develop a workplan for a communication project;
  6. Have hands-on experience with the design of a communication project; and
  7. Be able to review and critique communication projects.

Prerequisites

TopPre-requisite modules: CO5203 (min ’D’ grade).
Students who have taken CO5203 in the current semester will be allowed to register for CO5226, subject to approval by the module coordinator. Priority will be given to students who have taken and passed CO5203.

Disclamier

TopThe Master of Public Health programme requires attendance of 75 percent of all lectures, tutorials, workshops and seminars.
 
When a student is unable to attend the required sessions, an excuse may be granted for limited time periods upon the production of evidence of illness, misadventure or leave of absence having been granted.
 
Students must inform the MPH Office if any of the above has taken place.
 
Failure to meet attendance requirements will affect module grading.
