Survey of the international and European legal and political framework dealing with climate change. After the necessary facts and figures regarding climate change, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol are analysed as the main elements of the international legal framework. At European level, obviously the most important directive is the EU Emission Trading Directive. The analysis of this directive will be supplemented by other directives dealing with security of energy supply, liberalisation of the energy markets in Europe and sustainable development. Finally, the legal frameworks in the USA, Australia and Singapore regarding climate change will be shortly tackeled.
